During our trip through China, we also visited Jackery in Shenzhen. Jackery is a globally recognized name in the field of portable power stations and portable energy solutions and is one of the pioneers in this market.
During our visit, we were welcomed by Sharon Tang. We had an in-depth discussion about Jackery, developments in the European market, and our continued collaboration with Off Grid Power Station.
But this visit was mainly about something you don’t normally get to see as a supplier: what happens to a product before it actually hits the market?
A Closer Look at Jackery’s Development
Our tour began in the showroom, where we were taken on a journey through Jackery’s history and development.
It was interesting to see how the first generations of products have evolved into today’s power stations and energy systems. Not only have battery capacity and power output increased significantly over the years, but developments have also continued in terms of size, weight, safety, charging technology, and ease of use.
For us, the showroom thus provided a good picture of how quickly the portable energy market has evolved in a relatively short period of time.
From Showroom to Factory
A special highlight of our visit was the opportunity to tour the factory and testing facilities.
There, we gained a much better understanding of the inspections and field tests that are conducted before a product is finally released.
After all, power stations are used in a wide variety of situations. One user might take a system along in a camper during a cold winter, while another might use it during high summer temperatures. Transportation, moisture, intensive daily use, and prolonged stress also place demands on a product.
That is why products are tested under a wide range of conditions during development.
Testing Under Extreme Conditions
At the testing facilities, we were able to observe several of these procedures firsthand.
For example, we saw how products are exposed to both very low and very high temperatures. This allows us to investigate how the battery, electronics, and housing—among other components—respond when conditions deviate significantly from normal use.
We also saw test setups in which products are subjected to heavy moisture and water exposure.
Tests like these enable engineers to identify weaknesses early on and further improve products before they ultimately reach consumers.
For us, this was one of the most interesting parts of the visit. Specifications such as capacity, power, and charging speed are easy to compare, but reliability and service life are the result of an extensive development and testing process that usually remains invisible to the end user.
Quality and safety begin before launch
What really stood out to us during the tour was how much attention is paid to quality and safety before a product is released to the market.
This is especially important when it comes to energy storage. A portable power station contains a large amount of energy and must be able to function reliably for years in a variety of situations.
Therefore, it’s not just about performance when a product is brand-new out of the box. Temperature fluctuations, humidity, stress, and long-term use also play an important role.
By visiting the factory and testing facility ourselves, we gained a better understanding of how Jackery incorporates these aspects into the development and quality control of its products.
More Than Just Product Specifications
As specialists in energy storage, we compare products on a daily basis based on capacity, power, connections, battery technology, and other technical specifications.
A visit like this, however, shows that a product is not defined solely by its specifications.
The way it is developed, manufactured, inspected, and tested is just as important. That is precisely why we believe it is valuable to visit the manufacturers we work with in person.
It gives us a better understanding of the products we offer and ultimately helps us provide better advice to our customers.
A valuable look behind the scenes
Our visit to Jackery in Shenzhen was thus an interesting combination of knowledge exchange, product development, and a unique look behind the scenes.
We were particularly impressed by the opportunity to actually tour the factory and testing facilities. It really highlighted how many steps are involved between the initial product idea and the moment a power station is finally delivered to a customer.
